Wineries and Breweries in the greater Westport area

As the summer days comes to a wrap, we tend to appreciate the fleeting moments of warm sunlight kissing our skin, treasure the days of vacation, and value the free time we’re given to spend with our loved ones. If you’re looking to try something new with friends or family, you certainly should check out some of the wineries and breweries not too far from Forest Park.

The first, one of our personal favorites, Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery, is a short 12 minute drive from Forest Park. It is the largest vineyard in New England and operated by the Russell Family. The Russell’s, founder of both Buzzards Bay Brewing and Westport Rivers Winery, have always had a deep consideration for local agriculture and education and currently preserve 400 acres of working farmland and forest. With 25 years of experience, Westport Rivers Winery develops an extraordinary, luscious wine that can be described as crisp, clean, and certainly pleasurable. In addition to a beautiful view, remarkable wine, Westport Rivers Winery also offers a Sunset Music event this summer. Sip on a glass of locally grown wine and enjoy fantastic entertainment as the sun sets Friday evenings. No better way to spend a Friday evening with friends, loved ones, and family!

Running Brook Winery and Distillery, established in 1998, is located in Dartmouth – just a quick 15 minute drive from Forest Park. Owner and winemaker, Pedro Teixeira, caught the “grape bug” while living in California. Once he moved to Rhode Island, his condition was exacerbated, at which during this time he met his now co-founder Manuel Morais. Together they visited many vineyards and wineries gathering as much information as possible, at which they decided to grow Vitis Vinifera grapes to produce premium wines in Southeastern New England. Manuel Morais, previously having experience prior to Running Brook, used his knowledge and invented vineyard pruning style for cool viticultural regions called “tall grafts”. In addition to making fine quality premium New England wines, they also opened a distillery in 2014. This furthered their commitment to growing and producing 100% Massachusetts products. In 2016, they expanded their product line to carry three types of Brandies as well as Grappa and brandy based liqueurs. The winery tasting room is open seven days a week – Monday to Wednesday, noon to 5:00 PM, and Thursday to Sunday, noon to 6:00 PM.

Buzzards Bay Brewery, a fleeting 12 minute drive from Forest Park, is the go-to destination where farm meets cask. Brewing since 1998, Buzzards Bay is nestled among the gently rolling farmland of Westport. Every grain of malt and each petal of hop encourages Buzzards Bay to explore and to brew top-notch tasting beer. Currently there are three year round brews and 12 limited releases. Every beer is brewed by hand, therefore each brew, year rounder or limited addition, is always proven to be excellent. The Buzzards Bay Tap Room offers pints of your favorite of flight of four and is opened Tuesday to Saturday 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Beer to-go is also available from “Bombers” (22 oz.) to kegs (1/2 barrel).
